I-80 at Parleys Summit – Wildlife Bridge
In 2019, Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) completed the largest wildlife overpass in the state Utah. Spanning 320 by 50 feet, the bridge towers over all six lanes of Interstate 80 (I-80) so that local animals can migrate safely. Cameras were installed at both ends and the center of the bridge so the DWR can monitor and map migration patterns. The RLW team used computer models developed to visualize the project improvements before they were ever constructed. This was particularly helpful for coordinating with the public. Our construction team developed a visualization of the wildlife overpass, climbing lane, and noise wall and made it available through virtual reality goggles at open houses for the public. This created a sense of understanding and support from members of the community prior to and during construction.
